History and past events in Reception

In Reception we begin to explore history by relating it to the children’s immediate experiences and understanding of the world. Their engagement with the past is often rooted in concrete, familiar events and stories that help them differentiate between "now" and "then." This year, we have looked at our own personal histories by discussing milestones such as our birthdays, starting school and more recently, Christmas! These personal events have helped the children understand the concept of time and sequence.
