Computing

Computing at Oak Meadow

At Oak Meadow, we believe that computing is an essential skill for all children, regardless of their background or prior experience. Our vision is to provide every child with the opportunity to engage with computing in a meaningful, inclusive, and accessible way. We aim to nurture curiosity and creativity through technology, while also preparing our students for the ever-evolving digital world that they now find themselves within.

Empowering Every Learner

We understand that the digital world is constantly changing, and it’s our responsibility to ensure that children are not only equipped with the technical skills they need but also the confidence to use technology in a positive and responsible way. By making computing accessible to all students, we focus on a curriculum that is both engaging and challenging, encouraging problem-solving, critical thinking, and innovation. We follow the well-acclaimed Teach Computing scheme that ensures the progression of skills from Year 1 all the way to Year 6. In addition to this, in Reception, we ensure children are exposed to digital learning and are shown basic computing skills and knowledge to prepare them for the national curriculum.

E-Safety: A Core Priority

In today’s online world, e-safety is more important than ever. At Oak Meadow, we have created a strong e-safety culture, which permeates everything we do. Through our weekly E-Safety discussions within our computing lessons, we ensure that students receive regular, age-appropriate information on how to stay safe online, covering topics such as cyberbullying, privacy, and managing online relationships.

E-safety is not just a topic for one lesson; it is integrated throughout our PSHE curriculum, ensuring that children understand how to navigate the digital world responsibly, respectfully, and safely. This holistic approach empowers students to make informed decisions and foster positive digital habits.

This year's E-Safety message is “Is it too good to be true?” all about protecting yourself from online scams. Below is a presentation created by our Digital Ambassadors raising awareness around our school about scams, how to spot one and how to prevent yourself from online scams.

Digital Ambassadors: Leading by Example

Our Digital Ambassadors play a key role in promoting e-safety across the school. These carefully selected students are not only role models for their peers, but they are also actively involved in e-safety initiatives, helping to raise awareness and encourage safe digital practices throughout the school. They provide valuable peer support, offering guidance on how to use technology responsibly, and act as champions for positive online behaviour.

Preparing for the Future

As computing continues to shape the world around us, we are committed to providing our students with the skills, knowledge, and values needed to succeed in a digital future. By combining an engaging curriculum, a strong esafety ethos, and student leadership, we ensure that our children are not just consumers of technology but confident and responsible creators.

At Oak Meadow, we are proud to help our students thrive in an ever-evolving technological world, today and in the future.
